Quality is Designed into Products

I used to work in the Engineering Department for a large Fortune 500 aeronautical company; the kind of company where if a single part was scrapped out, it would have been equivalent to my entire salary. Each individual component was manufactured by this company, and all of the sub-assemblies and final assemblies were done in-house also. Needless to say, there were some VERY tight tolerances for the parts when being made, for the torque settings when being tightened, and for the test limits when being tested. If these products failed in the field, hundreds of people could die.

Inspecting the quality was very important and the gauges used to inspect were very precise. I was once told by an older and wiser Engineer that “Quality is not inspected in a product, it’s designed into a product.” 

Recently I have been having an issue with a product that we purchased. We use it for various purposes around the facility and have spent time and money attempting to fix what should have worked out of the box.

Here’s where I’m going with this:

  • Obviously this company made some mistakes, but I won’t judge the whole company by that – they’re human.
  • Here at RIB®, I’m sure we’ve made some mistakes – we’re human.
  • I’m sure you, at your place of business, have made some mistakes – you’re human.

The point is, here at RIB®, like I hope everywhere else, we try to design quality into our products. We try to test for all kinds of scenarios by testing for quality. We build our products with quality people who inspect the quality. We do this so that our customers will have less down-time and spend less time troubleshooting.

I hope you can see and appreciate the level of commitment we have to our customers. We want you to have the best products and we think we design and manufacture just that.
