How long have you been at Functional Devices?

I have been here for 13 years. My 14th anniversary is rapidly approaching which is in June 2018.

What made you want to work in Information Technology?

I started college getting prerequisites for Premed; my initial goal was to become a chiropractor. During my second semester of my freshman year, I had an introduction to Visual Basic. It was a basic computer course that was required but it sparked an interest and just felt natural. Shortly after, I changed my major to Computer Information Systems. Throughout college, I excelled at the various programming languages but had the opportunity to intern at a local consulting firm. I did some programming but largely dealt with analytics, troubleshooting, and proposals. I had found something that I thoroughly enjoyed and the thought processes just make sense.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I enjoy the Boston Red Sox, tattoos, craft beer, nature, and anything with motorcycles. My son, Cooper, is 9 and loves to ride with me. We will likely put a lot of miles on this year. He wants to go to Louisville and zip line in Mega Cavern again.

What’s your favorite part of working at Functional Devices?

There are two things that come to mind immediately with that question. First, I continue to be challenged in my industry. The target is always moving and I get to grow and learn new ways to be efficient. Secondly, I love seeing the growth of the company. No matter what metric you look at, the company has grown tremendously since I have been here. Being a part of that growth both personally and as a company is incredible.
