Tech Tuesday 3 Questions to ask when choosing a transformer
Transformers Group

A quick look at our transformer product offerings can be overwhelming. We have a lot of options! After taking many technical calls and emails, I can provide a quick way to conclude what transformer to choose. With our redesigned website, you can easily narrow down the quantity of options to choose from, as well.

Here are three great questions to ask and have answers for when deciding on the right transformer:

1.What is the required primary (input) voltage?

This question is important to answer because it will determine what level of voltage by which the transformer is powered. We offer all the popular primary voltage options in our transformer lineup. When on the transformer product selection page, look for the following filter tool to narrow down the available options:

2. What is the required secondary (output) voltage?

This question is important to answer because it will further refine the displayed transformer results. We currently offer either 120Vac or 24Vac secondary outputs. When on the transformer product selection page look for the following filter options to narrow down the available options:

3. What is the required power output (“VA rating”)?

Finally, this question is important to answer because it will determine how large the transformer is. It’s a good rule of thumb to slightly oversize the transformer for a given application, for instance, if a customer asks for 80VA, choose the 100VA rating in our product filter selector. You’ll be amazed at how concentrated the product selection will be when choosing the VA rating within the filter options seen below:

There you have it – three questions to answer when choosing the right transformer for you or your customer. As mentioned above, our redesigned website offers a great way to filter out the unnecessary products to get you the right models for your application. Still having issues finding the right model?
